Portraits of Urban Wildlife
by Edward 'Jack' Wright
In this series, I explore the relationship between myself as the photographer and untamed non-human subjects as active participants in the process. With an emphasis on faces, the series aims to bring urban wildlife out of the background and into a more relatable context. Given the slightest attention, many of theses creatures seem eager to interact. Perhaps they are conditioned to view humans as a potential source of treats. However, it is vastly more fulfilling to imagine that they are are curious about me . . . that they actively engaged with me. My hope is that by taking time to notice the faces of wild creatures by which we are always surrounded, but of which we are usually unaware, we can better contemplate our own identity as the human species.
